Certificate and document falsification has become pervasive in Nigeria. For example, in December 2019 a National Newspaper (Thisday) posted an article on the ‘Rash of Fake Certificates in Nigeria’.

The article focused on the issue of fake degree certificates in circulation in the country highlighted by the NYSC.  It is apparent that there is an undeniable absence of robust modern authentication processes in the the education sector, when it comes to the authenticity of benchmark academic documentation and its reliability to support an individuals academic standing. This is just one of many problems the country faces in the area of document authentication.

Document falsification is indeed pervasive in Nigeria. It is fast assuming the status of social menace blighting the image of Nigeria and Nigerians in the eyes of the international community. No credible Attestation Platform, Governments at various levels expend huge resources and apply rigorous and time-consuming measures:

  • to authenticate certificates and documents
  • to stamp out corruption at all levels,
  • instill discipline, transparency, accountability,
  • create an enabling environment to mainstream the “Ease of Doing Business” philosophy into our national narrative.
